The Hong Kong Prize is an illustrious award to recognize Hong Kong scientists’ outstanding scientific research achievements in various fields, including Artificial Intelligence and Robotics; Life and Health; New Materials and New Energy; Advanced Manufacturing and FinTech research. Winners receive HKD 2,000,000 as well as certificates and trophies to commemorate their work.
The Hong Kong Prize recognizes and rewards those whose scientific contributions make an impactful impact on society, with winners chosen based on both scientific achievements and contributions to society. It seeks to advance Hong Kong’s technological and innovative climate while celebrating science achievements within Hong Kong itself, mainland China and beyond.
This year, the Hong Kong Prize has added a brand new award category – “Hong Kong Young Scientist of the Year”. The winner will receive a cash prize of HKD 100,000 as well as an engraved gold medal commemorating their accomplishment. Additionally, their work will be showcased at an exhibition held by Hong Kong Science Museum.
Additionally to the main award category, three other categories exist for winners to be announced in January: Best Student Award, Life Time Achievement Award and Innovation Award. These will all be revealed soon enough!
Hong Kong Prize has a rich history in Hong Kong and is widely recognized as one of the most prestigious prizes for science and technology. Over its history, this event has raised Hong Kong to global status as a scientific hub. Furthermore, its benefits to people include high-tech enterprises being created and providing more employment opportunities for young scientists.
Measures have been put in place to ensure the integrity and fairness of the Hong Kong Prize draw, including strict checks from boxing to transport, with employees from HKJC’s security and customer service departments inspecting, measuring, testing and locking away balls used during each draw.
Hong Kong Government strongly backs the development of sports in Hong Kong and allocates over HK$130 million in 2024-25 financial year for sports for persons with disabilities. Hong Kong Special Administrative Region boasts strong sports infrastructure as well as talented athletes with various disabilities and ages who participate in these endeavors.
